Friday April 21 2006 Yahoo disconnected the Java Chat protocol, but chat continues on the new Yahoo Messenger protocol. A full re-write would be required to update ChitChat to this new protocol. This would be very time consuming, and as I no longer have the time available that I once did for this project, development must regretfully end here. I would like to thank everyone for all the support over the years. It was fun, and I learned alot. Thanks especially to those who showed their appreciation for my hard work by making PayPal donations. Thank you, ~ Tomis Erwin (gostcoder at yahoo dot com) ChitChat ran on various platforms including MacOS X, MacOS 9, and even Windows. Charla 2 can login to Yahoo! Chat as it uses the Messenger protocol. The interface is a bit clunky, but it works and it has a Rooms list (under the Chat menu after you join chat). Also, the application Adium can connect to Yahoo! Chat. Unfortunately, it doesn't display room listings as of this writing. After logging in with your Yahoo account, simply select "Join Group Chat" from Adium's file menu, type the name of the room you want to join, and there you go! If you are a programmer working in REALbasic and you would like to update ChitChat to the new protocol, then download the source code from the project page and have a go at it. Please give me a heads up so I can link to your website or we can discuss releasing a new version of ChitChat. Releasing "unofficial" ChitChat builds is prohibited, but I fully encourage spin-off projects. Note that the project was developed with REALbasic 5.5 and will probably need a bit of updating for newer versions of REALbasic. Last Update: 5/23/2006 | ||
